Welcome to my blog!
Hi, friend. If you are here, chances are you already know who I am. If you do not, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dr. Ibraheem S. Samirah. I am a Muslim Afro-Arab Palestinian born in Chicago, now serving as a representative for Herndon, Sterling, Chantilly, and Reston in Virginia’s House of Delegates. I also work as a dentist at my community based dental practice in Washington, DC.
Through my public service and profession my goal is simple, helping families stay healthy with more opportunities to succeed, and have the opportunity to spend more time together. This is why I’ve dedicated my time in office to fighting for ensuring healthcare and housing is accessible and affordable to all Virginians, for education to be a priority of the state, to permanently reform systems of oppression, to make sure women in Virginia have access to equal rights, and to safeguard every Virginian.
You may be wondering… Why a blog?
Well, I’ve heard a blog is a good place to express all the best ideas… Perhaps they can grow on you too.
Since my time as a Delegate, I’ve always felt the need to share my thoughts and reasonings behind my bills and postures, where I stand on certain issues, and the complexity of my experience, sadly shared by thousands of Americans.
While social media is a great place to express my initial thoughts, I’ve always felt it was not enough. I need a place where I can reflect, and share with you my experiences that led me to fight for something so passionately; A place where we can go back and forth in a discussion about these ideas and experiences. A place where you can truly understand how these issues affect us and why are so important to fight for. So, I created this blog.
What to expect?
I believe conversations are an excellent starting point for building coalitions and making tangible changes. These are my aspirations with this blog, starting conversations to promote real change. For this reason, you will find my thoughts on important issues such as affordable housing, accessible healthcare, democracy, justice reform, environmental justice, and many other issues vital to Virginians. I’ll touch upon them through written pieces, vlogs, photo galleries, and more. More importantly, we will explore my story, my partners, constituents, and our work.
I am no expert on any of this, so please feel free to always share your advice and communicate with me along the way! I hope to inspire you, and inspire new ideas to stimulate change. So, let’s keep in touch throughout this new experience!
Until next time, I hope you have a blessed holiday season. Remember that while the festivities feel and look completely different than before, we must still cherish the blessings we have. But let’s also use these times to reflect upon the disparities facing our country. While we may have a safe place to spend our holidays with warm food on the table, some Virginians are struggling to keep a roof over their heads due to the pandemic and its economic impacts. Let’s be conscious of the needs of all families in Virginia.
See you soon,
